Global Hunger and Data: The Philippines and the World
Global Hunger Index (GHI) scores, both worldwide and in the Philippines, continue to decline, indicating that the country is at the same pace with global efforts to reduce hunger. The Philippines also consistently reports lower hunger levels, which also manifests in projections through 2030. These trends suggest that the country must continue to take steps to address hunger and food insecurity to maintain its progress in solving these issues. While not shown in the plot, supporting analyses reveal strong negative correlations between undernourishment and food security indicators such as protein supply, dietary energy adequacy, and GDP per capita (r ≈ -0.96 to -1.00), suggesting that improving these conditions is closely linked to reducing hunger. In addition, energy and protein supply indicators show strong positive correlations with GDP. Together, these findings reinforce that advancing food and economic conditions is crucial to maintaining the country’s progress and achieving long-term hunger reduction goals.
